LAMÁQUINA’s collaboration with the Natural History Museum (NHM) in London for the Fixing Our Broken Planet on 3D Printing Industry. The article recognises this project as a prime example of how advanced 3D printing and sustainable design can reshape the way we approach heritage conservation and contemporary exhibitions.

3D Printing for Heritage Conservation

The new gallery, restored to preserve the Victorian features of the historic building, integrates 3D printed ceramics produced using 40% recycled clay and biopolymer joints. The design process was guided by extensive material research, ensuring the project adhered to the NHM’s high sustainability goals. The strategies deployed by LAMÁQUINA ensures functionality, aesthetics, and eco-conscious principles.

The use of 3D printing techniques within heritage sites is on the rise, as it provides new opportunities to combine modern technology with the preservation of cultural heritage. This innovative approach not only enhances the longevity of heritage sites but also opens the door to a more sustainable and adaptable future for architectural preservation.
